This is by far the best USB Serial adapter I could find. I use this one specifically for programming Modicon programmable logic controllers in industrial process environments. And 'the only USB serial adapter I found that communicate reliably in these industrial serial devices without error. We found that communication errors caused by a flaky USB to Serial cause serious problems and may crash the process of automation, so that said, this adapter was amazing. Ifound that this device was more reliable than some serial ports on board for this scenario.br / br / The difference I found is that this device has a pair of timing and tuning parameters available for 'adjustment than most USB to serial adapters. br / br / I have used this adapter over 4 years and have had zero problems other than a bit difficult to install 'with the drivers. Drivers are now available on the website Cables Unlimited, though, so you candownload if needed.br / br / I will supply all our programs with this particular unit, as I found it to be time tested and reliable solid rock where the greatest need. Used for receiver upgrade… – Crispin Garcia –
I bought this adapter for 3 reasons. First, they generally great reviews, secondly, it comes with its own drivers (which is something that does not necessarily get with a normal DB9-USB cable) and, finally, allowing for use with more than one M / F USB if necessary. I have a Denon 2309 audio / video receiver that has a serial input on the back and needed a firmware upgrade to eliminate some bugs in its operation. My options were to take one or the receiver to send a repair center forupdate or do it myself. br / br / I installed the drivers for the card on my laptop 6 years year running Windows XP without problems. The installation established a COM5 port on the laptop. I connected the laptop to the USB serial port on the Denon receiver using the cable 2 feet and follow the instructions included with the firmware file. Denon software allowed me to check the communication between two devices before proceeding with the upgrade. The firmware has been updatedsuccessfully and are quite satisfied with this card, even though I never could have no use for it again.
Velleman 8048 – A great test – Richard C. Mattes –
The 8048 is a Velleman PIC programmer Microchip. This programmer is known not to work with USB to serial converters. A quick check of their forums will let you know that. (A lot of customers upset saying that I have a USB-Serial converter and my program does not work! Velleman replies – This product does not work with converters) Most new computers do not come with a 9-pin serial connection more and mine did not either. So, after buying the Velleman and soldering istogether, I found in the manual "does not work with USB-serial converters. Well, it does not work with 99% of them. However, this USB converter is so true true RS-232, works well together. This is a programmer microchip, if it works with this, it should work with anything that requires a serial port.br / br / very, very, happy purchace.br / br / By the way, it comes with a USB extension cable .

When I put this in my Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 7, automaticallybr downloaded a driver / and installed it. When was the blunt message that the USB port is configured as COM 3.br / I was able to update the maps on my eTrex Legend GPS and connect to my Scantool websitebr Innova Innova 3140 / is to update the firmware . A USB extension cable is included along with a mini CD that has not been needed.br / After I removed the card I have verified that the USB portstill working with my other devices. br / I'm 100% satisfied with this product.
