I wasn’t really in the market for another watch, but when my son, the Marine, told me he had a Casio G-Shock he loved I, naturally, went to Amazon.com and started looking into what Casio had to offer. I’m old enough to remember when Casio put out its first LCD watches back when the tuning fork Accutron was the cutting edge watch. I’ve owned several Casios over the years, and those were mostly of the lower end variety I used as scrub time pieces which I discarded like cheap sunglasses. Over the years I got away from the casio watches since they were mostly of the same watch face design with the familiar LCD screen which I grew bored with. BUT during those ‘lost’ years Casio really made great progress in their watch designs and cutting edge technologies which I discovered only recently to my joy. While looking through all that Casio offered and reading many of the reviews accompanying the different styles I came across this Pathfinder model 3134, and I was almost hooked until I saw that Amazon’s price was way below what its MRSP price of 0 was – then I was sold. I really like the look of the watch; the many features it offers; the titanium band and bezel; the solar and atomic automatic calibrating of the time and battery functions; and the overall appearance. I ordered it, received it, and after adjusting the band to fit my wrist, fits on my arm like it was meant to be there. The directions are great for adjusting all the functions contained in the watch and recalibrating it to fit my area of the country – ie. the Southeast. The only thing I really had to change was all the measurements to English instead of metric as that’s what I’m most familiar with. The only other adjustment/calibration I had to perform was the altimeter setting. All other calibrations weren’t necessary as they all were reasonably accurate and within close proximity of what I was able to compare the measurements with. Since I’m not going to use it as stringently as some reviewers seem to want, it fits my every need excellently. Afterall, is it really necessary for the barometric pressure reading to exactely match that of what weather stations report since their reports usually have considerable time lags involved. The compass is right on the mark, the altimeter and temperature is very accurate as are the other measurements. In short, I love it!br /br /About adjusting the titanium band: This is the only possible feature that may pose a temporary problem, but after thinking about it I had no trouble in adjusting the band. You don’t really have to get a special tool or any complicated, specialized impliments to adjust this band as it’s very easy once you’ve made the decision to do it yourself. Here’s how I adjusted my band: First, look at the inside of the band’s links and locate the arrows which indicate the direction the link pins need to be pushed out. Straighten one end of a small metal paperclip to use as a drift punch and grasp the paperclip with wirepliers so you can apply enough pressure on the pins to force them through the other side of the link. After the pins have been forced part way to the other side of the link, use the wirepliers to pull them the rest of the way out. There is a very small metal sleeve type of roll pin that is located on the inside of the inner area of each link. This roll pin sleeve is used as a holding mechanism that prevents the pin from working out of each link through movement and is an important element of the band’s strength to stay intact. Be careful to watch for this sleeve to fall out and be prepared to put it back in the inner link when you’re ready to put the metal link pin back. Remove the number of links needed for the band to fit your wrist and put the band back together. Walla! You’re done!

Perfect for rugged adventurers and weekend warriors, the solar-powered Casio Pathfinder men’s sport watch is loaded with a digital compass and altimeter/barometer/thermometer–perfect for both mountain trekking and cave spelunking. It’s also particularly resistant to salt water corrosion, as well as hypo-allergenic–perfect for those with metal allergies. p The altimeter offers 5-meter measurements from -700 to 10,000 meters, and it can store altitude, month, date and time data, provide tendency and differential graphs, track cumulative ascent/descent, and sound an alarm when you reach a specified altitude. The watch also has a digital compass with 16 points of measurement displayed on the dial face. Other environmental and timekeeping features include: ulliBarometer with atmospheric pressure tendency/differential graphics liThermometer liWorld Time: 29 times zones (30 cities), city code display, daylight saving on/off li5 daily alarms li1/100 second stopwatch with 24-hour capacity and elapsed/split time modes and 1st-2nd place times liCountdown timer with 60-minute range liAuto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2099) /ul This watch also features a ±20-second accuracy per month, Afterglow backlighting, and water resistance to water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)–which will stand up to the rigors of recreational scuba diving. This solar-powered watch has a battery life of up to 5 months on a full charge (without further exposure to light). p This multi-band radio-controlled watch receives a time calibration signal transmitted from several locations across the globe (the U.S., UK, Germany, and Japan), and it has an auto receive function (up to 6 times per day). You can choose to automatically receive this signal four times a day, or manually update the watch to the atomic clock. pcenterimg border=”0″ src=”http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/watches/atomic.type.MULTIBAND5.jpg” align=”center”/centerp

Casio Men’s Pathfinder – Lon S. Felker – Johnson City, TN
I’ve owned another Pathfinder, one that was solar only. This new one is a real step up.br /It has all the Pathfinder standard bells and whistles, and I like the metal bracelet.br /The arrangement of the knobs for compass, altimeter and barometer are very convenient forbr /me, as I am left handed and wear the watch on my right wrist. br /I’m not an especially outdoorsy type, but the ruggedness of this model is certainly a plusbr /when I go hiking in the mountains (I live in Appalachia), and also when swimming. br /In the past, I’ve had problems with other atomic clock set watches, but so far this one seemsbr /on the beam. br /So to summarize, I’d say this Pathfinder is accurate, comfortable, convenient, durable and somewhat stylish.
Pathfinder PAW1500t -v7 – Dai Roberts – Holy Island, North Wales
1st review, so I’m not expecting a pulitzer prize !!br /br /I bought this watch after looking at several others in the pathfinder ( or pro-trek- depends on where you are in the world I’m told) series. most if not all of the pathfinders have the ABC system but this model has a few ‘extras’ that make it stand out amongst the others.br /br /firstly it doesn’t come with a horrible rubber strap! to me if you’re going to spend this much on a watch, then having one with a rubber strap really let it down- it would be like having a Ferrari with steel wheels and plastic clip on trims! as its a titanium band it weight hardly anything- infact, it weighs less than another watch of mine a mechanical Rotary GS series !!br /br /now for the added extras in the watch itself…br /br /in addition to the ABC system we have a moonphase tracker, tide graph ( living on a small island this is VERY handy) and a thermometer. the thermometer is a bit useless though as its always the same temperature on my wrist!br /br /also worth a note- over many of the others watches in the pathfinder series, this is a power hungry watch- I’d imagine that if this was powered with conventional batteries it would last , at most a year, however this watch is solar powered! bonus !
br /br /as well as being solar powered it r/c time kept, every day at around 1am it receives a signal from an atomic clock (again depends where you are in the world) to make sure it’s running as it shouldbr /br /the only draw back I’ll give this watch is it’s size- I’m pretty big and have large wrists and forearms, so it doesn’t look out of place on me, but when my father tried it on (who’s a good bit smaller than me) it looked like he had a wall clock on his wrist it totally drowned him outbr /br /
Simple to use, Intuitive, Great Looking, Love it – J. DelPrete – Boston, MA
I use to have a High gear wacth which basically did all the same stuff as this watch, less the tidal and moon phase info, but damn it was so convoluted to use. This watch I have only had for a week now and so far even after spending an hour or so with the 1″ thick manual (it’s not that bad) this watch is really very straight forward to use. It really can’t be any easier to figure out. Let me list some ket features I like.br /br /1. While the watch is a bit big its not huge at all. More importantly the watch rounds down to your arm in such a way as to not always catch your dress shirt sleeve on it. I have an office job and my old High gear watch stuck up so much it always caught my shirt and would never fit under th cuff. Not this watch.br /br /2. The auto light funtion. This works when your twist your wrist at 40 degree towards your face the light turns on. Now, you can turn this functin on or off easily. I turned it on and was nice but then I cound it always going on at night as I toss and turn a lot in bed…your choice but you have the option of auto on or on when you want to the the light button.br /br /3. Moon phase data is accurate and simple to read, period…br /br /4. Todal data is too soon to tell but the level of the (spring or neap tides) should be very accurate. Actual tidal data from beach to beach is really impossible to predict as they can vary by say 15 minutes or more just within miles in reality. Time will only tell here and so far I am tracking the accuracy with a tidal app on my iphone which I can tune for specific beaches along the atlantic coast.br /br /5. World Time function. This is really nice as I do travel several time zones a lot. My old watch had 2 tim zones and that was cool. But this one I can choose time zones based on spefic citis in certain countries. Such as Tokyo, Sydney, New York City, etc and this can all be done with a push of a button.br /br /6. Atomic update is great. I never take it off and have checked every day to make sure it is still synching up and it it on the first time every time.br /br /br /All in all I just love it….so far…br /br /br /br /
Worst Watch Ever – J. Cheevers – El Paso, TX
I am currently deployed to Northern Iraq. I got this watch four months ago and since I have had it it has been nothing but a waste of money. I’m an Forward Observer and like to hike and do land nav. This watches accuracy is horrendous. In the first 2 months I had to re calibrate it. At one point it was off by 11 degrees. If I relied on this watch on a normal land nav course I’d need binoculars to find my destination at 3km distances between points. Where I am deployed right now, its the rainy season. I haven’t seen the sun in 2 weeks. The watch is constantly low despite my trying to charge it under fluorescent lights. The 5 month claim made by Casio certainly is a stretch. I didn’t think that the difference in the band being stainless steel and the watch made of titanium would be that bad, but when I got the watch, if you look at it for more than 2 seconds the difference in materials is so stark it might as well slap you in the face. br /In all the watches functions are terrible and its aesthetics are just as bad. This watch was a complete waste of money. Some of the other guys in my company have suunto’s and they seem to be a little more reliable.
